In Vivo Research Services (IVRS)

The mission of the In Vivo Research Services (IVRS) is to provide centralized high quality, cost-effective research services to both academic and industry clients. Rutgers has a wealth of experience, capabilities and models that are routinely used to answer critical in vivo research questions.

We provide a comprehensive program of animal care including consultation, experimental design, protocol preparation, a duly constituted animal care and use committee, occupational health and laboratory safety, BSL3 in vivo biohazard research, and full-time veterinary care. Rutgers offers competitive fee-for-service pricing, confidentiality, accuracy, and rapid service. Our team is dedicated to humane animal research.

Users must have an approved animal use protocol from the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) prior to utilizing IVRS services and animal facilities. IVRS provides the following services:

Animal Care and Facilities

Rutgers possesses state of the art barrier animal facilities with the highest standards of animal husbandry and pathogen exclusion. Animal research projects are supported by an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Rutgers animal facilities are USDA-registered and accredited by AAALAC International. Rutgers has an Animal Welfare Assurance with the US Public Health Service (PHS), a requirement for conducting any PHS/NIH-funded animal work. External investigators can use animal facilities with or without technical assistance. The fee includes per diem charges, veterinary care and regulatory fees. Rutgers has animal facilities suitable for rodents and large animal species including BSL 2, 3, and gnotobiotic facilities.

IVRS offers "one stop shop" services with collaborations with other Core facilities:

Consultation

Consultation services are available in the areas of In vivo experimental design, Animal model selection, Federal grants (SBIR/STTR) and on-site training workshops.

Rates

The facilities are operated on a fee-for-service basis. Users are charged based on the amount of time technicians spend performing the services. Fees for a variety of laboratory tests are processed through CMR business office. To view IVRS fees visit our Technical Services Schedule.
