Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) Survey
The HERD Survey is an annual census of U.S. colleges and universities that expended at least $150,000 in separately accounted-for Research and Development (R&D) within a fiscal year. The survey collects information on HERD-defined R&D expenditures by fields of research and source of funds and also gathers information on types of research, expenses, and headcounts of R&D personnel.
HERD Survey
The Office of Cost Analysis and Capital Equipment Management and the Office for Research work closely to submit and analyze the annual HERD survey results. The results are reviewed and an analysis produced for the university community.
HERD Results
Each year the Rutgers Office of Cost Analysis and Capital Equipment Management compiles the NSF HERD results and submits them to the National Science Foundation. Advanced versions are sent to the Office for Research and Vice Chancellors for Research for each of the four Chancellor-led units to review prior to submission.
