Getting Started

It is very easy to interact with RUMIC to schedule scanning sessions and to arrange animal transfer to the imaging facility. Contact us directly and we can discuss the imaging resources maintained at the Core and the services that we provide to support your projects. We can also arrange a tour of the facility and discuss your imaging needs in detail. RUMIC conducts various presentations and workshops throughout the year. Send us your email address and we can place you on the invitation list for these informative events.

RUMIC uses the iLab Laboratory Management System to facilitate interaction with established investigators. To register in the iLab system, visit our iLab portal and you will then be able to view additional information and schedules of the imaging systems we maintain.

*SOW: Prices for industry projects are negotiated in a Statement of Work and can vary.

*Hourly fees shown in table are estimated costs for typical scans. Charges for scans are greatly affected by size and complexity of study, size of sample, desired resolution, scan time, sample preparation and contrast agent processing. Please provide information related to your scientific objectives and sample number and we can provide a cost estimate for your specific project.

Consultation

Many factors affect the quality of the images that are generated using our imaging systems including the fixatives used for tissue preservation, the diet / hydration of the animals to be imaged, the age and temperature of the samples and the selection of appropriate tracers, probes, and contrasts agents to highlight structural features. If you would like to incorporate imaging endpoints into your studies, please contact us early in the study planning process and we can provide free consultation.

Image Analysis

Image reconstruction, animation / rotation, 3D displays, and quantitative image analysis can be conducted at RUMIC workstations (10Gbps data transfer speeds) or via remote access to advanced VivoQuant™ and PMOD™ software.

Grant Support

RUMIC offers a wide variety of items to support imaging studies proposed in grant applications including:

  • Letters of Support
  • Text for Facilities & Equipment
  • Biosketches
  • Vertebrate Animal Sections related to imaging procedures
  • Low- or no-fee POC and feasibility images for R21 submissions

IACUC Protocols

The RUMIC has assembled a library of pre-written text describing animal handling, imaging techniques and procedures for each of our imaging modalities to cut & paste into your IACUC protocols, facilitating approval. We also help coordinate the transport of animals to imaging vivaria for housing during imaging projects.
