The Mid-Atlantic Directors and Staff of Scientific Cores (MAD SSCI) Annual Conference will take place in New Jersey for the first time in its history, as Rutgers will host the 2024 event.

The conference will once again have a strong track of offerings for animal-related cores, including a half-day pre-conference session on best practices in management of animal-related cores.  Additionally, it will continue to offer leadership training with a full day pre-conference session entitled “Leading with C.A.R.E. Principles.”

Other sessions will focus on AI in cores, collaborating with government and Pharma, and many other topics featuring the increasingly collaborative disciplines in scientific core facilities. The conference will end with a half day professional skills development workshop.

The meeting will include an opening reception at Christopher’s Restaurant in The Heldrich Hotel (conference hotel) with a keynote lecture by Dr. Michael Zwick, Senior Vice President of Research at Rutgers University, Building a 21st Century University.

There will be plenary lectures by Dr. Renata Pasqualini (Rutgers University) and Dr. Rajesh Uthamanthil (Seattle Children’s Hospital). Thursday’s concurrent sessions and roundtable discussions will cover a wide range of topics: Big Data and AI in Animal cores, CryoEM, DNA methylation, Microbiome, Light Microscopy, Clinical Trials to Improve Animal Health, Organoids, Metabolomics, Government and Pharma Collaborations and Rigor and Reproducibility best practices. The final day will feature two workshops: Seeing is Believing:  Embracing and Navigating Diverse Realties and Audit Preparedness for Shared Resources.

Prior to the start of the meeting, there are two pre-meeting workshop: Best Practices for Managing Animal Related Cores and Leading with C.A.R.E. Tactics.
