Biography

Anastasiia Tsymbal, a native of Moscow, Russia, was interested in chemistry from a young age. In high school, she joined the Laboratory of Glycoconjugate Chemistry at Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry (IOC), which is part of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). Ana was later admitted to the Higher Chemical College (HCC RAS), a part of Mendeleyev University of Chemical Technology, where she managed to keep her research work going at the IOC while completing the requirements for her diploma. She graduated early with a master's of science degree in chemistry.

Expanding the breadth of her knowledge and experimental skills, Anastasiia joined first the laboratory of Dr. D. Loginov at Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds of RAS, then moved to Harvard to work in the laboratory of Professor G. M. Whitesides. She later moved to Switzerland working on organometallic chemistry with Professor N. Cramer at l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. Her high productivity is demonstrated by the many seminal publications from each of her laboratory stays.

After Ana graduated from HCC RAS, having continued her westward migration, she moved to the East Coast and was recruited by the Molecular Design and Synthesis group at Rutgers, where she is currently contributing her synthetic and computational skills to many research projects.

Outside of the lab, Ana enjoys cooking delicious dishes, watching old movies, and drawing - all at the same time.
