Dr. James Barr von Oehsen is the Associate Vice President of the Office of Advanced Research Computing (OARC) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and Co-Lead of the Biomedical Informatics team for the New Jersey Alliance for Clinical and Translational Science.

His role at Rutgers University is to provide strategic leadership in advancing Rutgers University’s research and scholarly achievements through next-generation computing, networking, and data science. Prior to joining Rutgers, he was employed by Clemson University Computing and Information Technology (CCIT) as the Executive Director of the Cyberinfrastructure Technology Integration (CITI) group.

His research interests include designing and building secure campus-level distributed hybrid platforms that seamlessly tie on-premises resources with a commercial cloud. Other areas of interest include cybersecurity, advanced networking, computing on the edge, and the design of education, outreach, and workforce development programs aimed at improving the human expertise necessary to support these next-generation technologies and user communities. He also has extensive experience working with diverse campus research communities locally and throughout the nation as well as within the US industry sector and is a founding member of the Ecosystem for Research Networking (ERN).
